Burnage Boys: Apprentice Curators Students from Burnage Academy for Boys have taken on the role of curators to select and display a sculpture at their school. A group of nine Year 9 students worked with a selection of seven sculptures, which are displayed here. They researched and generated ideas before selecting Cobra as their favourite piece, which was displayed at their school for one day in October 2019. Working with artists and gallery staff, the students considered display options and developed ways of exploring their sculpture before sharing their insights and the sculpture at school. The process, ideas and activities that were developed throughout the project are documented here, to share young people’s perspectives and offer approaches for others to use when exploring sculpture. This project was made possible with support from Art UK’s Masterpieces in Schools programme. This unique initiative takes sculpture out of galleries and museums and into classrooms. It is part of Art UK’s ongoing sculpture project. ART UK LOGO
