Summary

Black wholestraw plait. Lined with white plain weave silk. Sugar-loaf shape sewn spirally from centre. Stand-up brim, black chip with wholestraw plait along upper edge. Black velvet band along lower edge of brim, top edge trimmed with facetted black glass bead embroidery. Crown centre front trimmed with very large compound bow of scarlet corded silk ribbon, crossing to underside of brim. Smaller bow at inside centre back brim. Section of gathered black embroidered net falling over sides and back of crown, supported by 2 wing-shaped motifs of wired black glass beads.
