The College (at Manchester) Lancashire
Summary
View of Chethams College, Manchester. The image is of the exterior of a stone building, the near side with trefoil-arched windows set in pairs, threes, or fours. There are several architectural projections, each wall catching the light differently, as if it is a bright day. In the courtyard a man with a walking stick passes by to the left. Four boy scholars are grouped to the right, in distinctive floor-length uniforms. The engraving style makes particular use of wavey parallel hatched lines to convey wall and rooftile textures.
