Woman Reading
Georges d' Espagnat 1870 - 1950
Summary
A young woman is seen seated in profile reading a book, which is balancing on the edge of a small table. Her head rests in the palm of her left hand, while her right lies in her lap. A vase of flowers is on the table and a small potted plant is visible behind her chair. D'Espagnat, who was largely self-taught, enjoyed a long and varied career as a painter, illustrator and stage set designer. His early work is impressionistic, but his later style is closer to the work of the Nabis. This probably dates from around 1900.
