Last of the Snow

Charles Oppenheimer 1875 - 1961

Summary

Garden scene in winter, looking down towards a cluster of houses seen from behind, with a large backgarden in the middle ground. The winter snowfall is just beginning to clear, revealing patches of bright green grass beneath. A bare tree stands to the left and washing hangs drying to the right, thick smoke rises from the chimney on the left. The paintwork is delicately applied with some thicker and scratched areas of paint which create texture. The colours are reminiscent of the winter season; bright pastel shades in yellow and lilac sit against the luminous white of the snow.
