Summary

Public: Shaped moulded jug with with fluted sides and beaded borders, white earthenware, painted in metallic purple lustre and green overglaze enamel with cottage scenes, scrolling floral borders and dated inscription. Private: Shaped jug of four-lobed circular form, tapering to spreading foot, with flattened shoulder rising to straight neck and projecting lip. Square-angled strap handle with slight spurs at terminals. Main body of jug relief-moulded with four panels of vertical fluting surmounted by beaded border, picked out in metallic purple lustre, with plain circular reserves in centre of each panel. Reserves to left and right of handle painted in purple lustre with rural landscapes comprising cottage amongst trees, reserve opposite handle inscribed 'James & Peggy / Beard / 1815'. Neck relief-moulded with scrolling stems of roses picked out in purple lustre and yellow-green enamel, inside and edge of neckrim banded in purple, handle picked out with purple floral motif. Slightly bluish glaze, crazed in patches.
