Christian Dior (unlabelled)

Summary

Short boxy jacket in black and white wool boucle tweed; turn-down collar; single breasted with 4 very large black half spherical buttons; slanted side pockets; lined black acetate; handwritten label, at neck 'Bobby'; otherwise unlabelled. Possibly a suit jacket. The jacket was worn by a Mrs Xena Franklin and was reputedly worn by a model at a Dior fashion show. Dior named one model in every collection 'Bobby' after his dog. Mrs Franklin had a long association with couture, having been dressed by Worth of London when a young woman and having known well one of the vendeuse at Dior, London. After the war her husband was based at the British Embassy in Paris and she was lent dresses by Lanvin, Schiaparelli and Dior for formal functions, and then allowed to buy them at the end of the season. She got married in Jacques Fath.
