Assembly of Figures

K. Vaughan 1912 - 1977

Summary

A painting representing a figure group of four nude men against a landscape of abstract forms resembling areas of sea and rock. One man stands apart to the left with hands behind his back, the other three to the right stand in varied positions; one crouching down, one bending over, and one standing with his hand raised to his head. The colours of the work are dark and include tones of green, brown and dark grey, the paintwork is scratchy and expressionistic in parts. This is one of a series of nine paintings of male figures gathered in the landscape called 'Assemblies' made between 1952 and 1979.
