Back and front gathered on to high collar fastening in front with three thread buttons and gusset inserted back and front at join with collar and straight narrow band over shoulders, front opening strengthened with heart shaped piece of linen sewn on to wrong side at bottom of slit, long full sleeves gathered on to armhole with strengthened linen band on wrong side and gusset under arms, seam open from wrist for 4 ins. strengthened at base with diamond shaped piece of linen on wrong side, gathered into double narrow wristband with buttonhole each end, side seams open to 11.25 ins from hem, with small gusset at top of opening fine linen frill on one skirt at front opening below collar, at wrist and wrist opening with narrow tuck above hem round wrist, frilled shirt marked -MX 12 Owned by Sir William Buchy (RA) in the nineteenth century, so could possibly have been used as an artistic prop for portraits.
