Summary
Evening Suit; three piece, black wool cloth, grey wool waistcoat. Tailcoat; Double breasted with edge to edge front and three black plastic buttons. Wide pointed revers faced in black corded rayon. Tail curves down to centre back. One chest pocket. Centre back seam, slit from waist to tail with buttons at waist and mock pleats stitched down tails. Interior; black satin lining quilted at body sides. Cream satin sleeve lining. Pocket each side of chest. No label. Waistcoat; associated by donor with siut, although it appears to be a morning waistcoat. Grey cavalry twill, double breasted with three grey composition buttons each side. Cut straight across at waist and two bound pockets each side. Very deep curved revers, and "collar" which ends at shoulder seam, lined with grey rayon. Back, grey rayon with centre back seam, self fabric strap with metal buckle marked "solide". Interior; lined with cream twilled rayon. Two buttons stitched in later at centre front, perhaps to anchor waistcoat to trousers. Trousers; fastens with 7 black plastic buttons in fly, then japanned hook and bar "sword make" at waistband. 2" waistband with two pleats each side front and small hidden pocket at right. Buttons for braces. Side pockets and black rayon braid from waist to ankle. Interior; cream satin waistband, cream cotton pockets. cotton gusset at crotch.
