working shirt

Summary

Unbleached linen shirt, cut in two straight panels with handsewn, overstitched side seams; plain round 2.5" (6cm) collar fastening CF with two buttons (missing); CF opening with four buttons (missing), shoulder gusset (no yoke) (3.5"/ 9cms square). Front panel slightly shorter than back; side slits at hem with small gussets (2"/5cm square). Sleeves gathered into body of shirt, all round with underarm gussets (7" 18cms square); straight sleeves with three pleats (formed by the gathers) either side gathered into cuffs fastening with tiny pearl buttons (possibly later). Outside edge overstitched from below implying that cuffs would be turned over. Worn by Arnold family (probably donor's great great grandfather, a farmer).
