Summary

Public: Milk jug, tea cup and saucer, coffee can and saucer, bone china, and bread and butter plate, pearlware, printed overglaze in black with mother and child in classical dress. Private: Yellowed bone china milk jug of squared oval 'London' form, rectangular footring and pointed loop handle with small projecting cusp. Rim dips down by handle and rises again to wide curving lip at opposite end. Prominent mould marks. Metallic purple lustre border to rim, edges of handle, and join with footring, simple stem and leaf border, also purple lustre, round shoulder beneath lip. Sides of jug stipple-printed in black with different scenes of woman in eighteenth century dress, reclining on daybed and playing with small child. In one scene she holds tambourine above the child's head. Slightly yellowed tea cup with convex tapering sides, inverted foot and small Ridgway type loop handle with concave curve near lower terminal. Printed on sides with same two scenes on milk jug, of woman and child, and painted round rim, near base and on back of handle with purple lustre borders. Thin purple lustre line running round interior. Cylindrical coffee can with whiter body, tapering slightly to flat base. Same loop handle as tea cup. Printed on sides with single scene of woman and child with tambourine, and painted in purple round rim, base and on back of handle. Thin purple line round interior. Two deep saucers, whiter bodies, curving sides and tapering footrings. Printed in well with scene of woman kneeling on daybed, holding hands of child. Surrounded by two rings of purple lustre and purple lustre rim. Large bread and butter plate with steep curving sides and wide footring. Printed in well with scene of woman seated on a stool, bouncing child on her lap. Surrounded by two purple lustre rings and purple lustre rim.
