Summary

A back street in Manchester, looking down at a house from above, possibly through a window. near and far chimney tops and roofs make up the skyline, and the colours of the image are predominantly red and orange for the bricks, and grey slate roofs. A wheelbarrow lies discarded outside the house. Sharp black outlines embolden the features in the painting. A note in the artist's file records the location as Oxford Road, opposite the University c.1934. Born in Cheshire, Melland went to art school in Manchester.
