Awakening Of The Spirit Of The Rose

William Stott, of Oldham R.B.A. 1857 - 1900

Summary

Female figure lying on her back surrounded by pink rose bushes, she is depicted lying left to right in a diagonal composition from the top left hand corner of the canvas. The figure is dressed in a sheer white gown and lies with her arms outstretched but bent at the elbows with hands slightly cupped. Her knees are drawn up slightly and her head is slightly raised. Her head is turned to the right and she is looking directly at the viewer however her face is in shadow and indistinct which adds to the feeling of someone waking from a long sleep.
