A Fair-haired Slave Who Made Himself a King

Charles Napier Kennedy 1852 - 1898

Summary

A classical scene of a young naked boy with pale blonde, curly hair, carried by two females down a set of marble steps into a deep pool to be bathed. One woman is pale and one is dark, and they both have fabric tied around their waists. The scene takes place in a palatial setting with blue drapes and an architectural ornament in the background. An arched doorway is just visible on the far right. Flowers and petals are scattered in the water beside the steps and at the base of the banister in the foreground.
