jar
Summary
Public: Globular jar, white earthenware, modelled with a repeated pattern of fish and swirling waves, painted in silver lustre over a green glaze. Private: Globular shaped jar, tapering from high shoulder to footring, with short, wide, straight neck. Low relief pattern round body of four large jumping fish alternating with swirling waves. Body appears to have been moulded slightly with fingers to support slip-modelled relief of fish. The whole then decorated with a green glaze. Fish and waves painted in silver lustre, giving pale pinkish silver fish with scales and fins reserved in green, waves a bright gold turning dull yellow round footring. Narrow lines of movement along waves and small coils round shoulder reserved in green. Jar interior coated in blue-green translucent glaze, pooling in the well with some splashes of silver lustre.
