Untitled 1999 Thomas Schütte born 1954 Ceramic in 2 parts Thomas Schütte lives and works in Düsseldorf and is renowned for his diverse artistic practice. Besides sculpture, prints, drawings and installations, he also makes architectural models and banners. In 2007 his colourful architectural structure in perspex was installed on the Trafalgar Square Fourth Plinth. Schütte believes that form, material and colour have their own unique expressive language. His art explores the role of the artist and artwork in relation to the human condition - his major concern. This is one of a number of ceramic works he has made out of fired terracotta and white clay. Sometimes these are displayed as single pieces, other times he groups them together in clusters Purchased through the Contemporary Art Society Special Collection Scheme, supported by funds from Arts Council Lottery and Manchester City Galleries' Corporate Patrons.
