The Aloe Tree

Samuel John Peploe 1871 - 1935

Summary

A view near the small beach of the Bestouan, near the Mediterranean town of Cassis, looking towards a hotel building. The view is taken from the roadside from behind an aloe tree, its branches framing the left side of the painting. The sky is lilac in colour and the house is composed of bright, whitened shades of pastel. The paintwork is loose and somewhat expressive in style.
