Summary

A street scene at Aix-en-Provence. The viewer looks through an avenue of tall, pale trees casting complex shadows on the street below. The bare branches of the many trees stretch up into a bright blue sky. People walk in various directions, some stand beside a stone water fountain in the street, and others sit on benches on the pavements. Buildings line the street, and to the left, market stalls stand beneath the trees. There is a statue at the far end of the avenue, beside which, more people are standing.
