Summary
Impressionistic Italian landscape scene beneath a vibrant blue sky. Patches of grassland with old gnarled trees in the foreground to left and right, giving way to mountains in the distance. A tapestry of colours in lilacs, blues, greys and greens are built up to construct this idyllic landscape scene. The view is taken from an abbey, Scholastica, a few miles to the south-east of the town of Suviaco (now called Subiaco), which is 30 miles east of Rome.
