Woman at Table

Geoffrey Tibble 1909 - 1952

Summary

Heavily layered impressionistic view of a woman in a domestic interior executed using an impasto style, seated to the left of a small circular table in the foreground, cutting something on the edge of the table with a knife. Tall bright window in the stands in the background to the left, against which a woman in silhouetted, with a circular drop leaf table against the wall to the right. Decorative areas such as the patterning and texture of the woman's clothes are emphasised; the colours are fresh and vibrant and refer to the retinal sensation associated with viewing such a scene.
