Summary

View along the deck of naval vessel H.M.S Devonshire at sea, with view of the funnels in foreground to the right, men on deck at their gun posts to the left. A string of washing is suspended around the base of near most funnel in bottom right corner. A Supermarine Walrus Bi-plane with single motor has just been catapulted from the deck of the ship to carry out a reconaissance flight. When the painting was created in 1943 the H.M.S Devonshire was in service as a troop carrier in the Mediterranean.
