Somerset Farm

James Bateman 1893 - 1959

Summary

An enclosed farm is depicted with a ramshackle fenced-off section leading the viewer’s eye towards the farm. Bushes and shrubs are depicted on the left hand side of the painting. The farm is predominately painted in mushroom-brown colours in varying tones, the pathes of colour represent a cobbled stone exterior to the architecture. There is a distinctly pink hue enclosing the painting. Block colours are used with varying tone but little intricate detail, thick brushwork is utilised to gain this effect.
