[George] Loraine Conran
Sir Cedric Lockwood Morris 1889 - 1982
Summary
An impressionistic head and chest portrait of Loraine Conran, Director of Manchester City Art Galleries 1962-1976. He is depicted as a young man with a head of thick, dark hair, wearing an open-necked light blue-grey shirt which brings out similar coloured tones in his eyes. In the background there is a decorative array of landscape forms in shades of light and dark green. The figure has a serious and somewhat intense expression on his face. The portrait is completed using thick, impasto paintwork, adding to the sensual nature of the portrait.
