Going to the Wall

Bob Robinson 1951

Summary

Surrealist scene of men and women from different professions and backgrounds, including a masked terrorist, a fascist holding a union jack, a photographer, a housewife, a clergyman, a nun, a weightlifter, and a businessman, floating horizontally towards an impenetrable wall. Severed limbs and detritus fall from the ramparts, including a bookcase and a lavatory seat to the top left. A mechanical claw suspended from the wall picks up pieces of bodies and debris from the heap below, and in the bottom left an arm is visible reaching out, holding a credit card.
