Satirical Design for a Wedgwood Jasper Teapot

Thomas Rowlandson 1756 - 1827

Summary

Design in grey for teapot in the shape of a seated demonic figure in profile to the left, with a thick beard. Steam shoots up from the top of his head/the lid. His tail curls up behind him and emerges from between his legs, this forms the tail and spout of the teapot. Below the design is a drawing of a classical chariot. The two drawings are framed in a grey and cream border. A rude charicature based on an antique vase etched by the Abbe de St. Non, a source used by Wedgwood for his ceramics.
