Two Foxhounds 1788 George Stubbs 1724-1806 Stipple engraving Stipple engraving is reminiscent of drawing. Stubbs has used softly graded tones of stipple to model the rounded forms of these foxhounds. The smooth textures of the hounds' coats were rendered by using a small roulette wheel: a tool with closely packed teeth which leave a dense pattern of marks on the plate. A larger tool was used for the misty background forms. Gift of T H Butler 1969.191
