Head of a Child
Summary
A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Hans Sebald Beham. The drawing shows the head of a child facing forwards and slightly towards the left though looking upwards and to the right. The child has curly hair and very round cheeks and chin. It is a line drawing with slight cross-hatching to create shadow. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 29 HANS SEBALD BEHAM (b. 1500; d. 1550) HEAD OF A CHILD Collection of Mrs. Stanley Leighton. Pen and ink on white paper. 12.5 x 9.5 cm. (4 7/8 x 3 3/4 in.) Dated 1520. An example, not of the most favourable kind, of the calligraphic draughtmanship in vogue at Nurmberg. Beham was the chief exponent of the style in the generation that followed Dürer, but this specimen is unusually mannered for a work of his youth. C. D."
