A Welsh Hillside, 1883
Summary
A view from a windy hillside in Wales. To the right in the background there is a typical Welsh valley, headed by a high rock. In the middle ground to the left, sheep graze near the top of the hillside. In the distance, a column of birds can be seen flying out from the nearer hill on the left, to the further high rock on the right, heading toward dramatic clouds. The colours of the canvas move from the green of the grass on the left, nearest the viewer, to the browns of the near-distant valley, which then darken at the high rock. The landscape is pictured under the overcast but darkening clouds.
