Summary

Interior scene. A group of men are gathered around a table beneath a large painting of a seated lady, which hangs on the wall behind them. On the left, a man is seated on a stool with a document in his hands. He looks across table at the rest of the group, one of whom is seated on the other side of the table, while the other three men stand. In the right corner, a walking stick leans against an empty chair which is draped with items of outer clothing. A hat lies on the floor beneath the chair. The scene is framed in a chequered border.
