Setting Up The Maypole

Frederick Goodall 1822 - 1904

Summary

A busy village scene. There are half timbered buildings in the background to the left, trees and fields in background to the right. A large group of people are sitting and standing in a circle. At the centre of the circle, a group of men are involved in hauling and pushing a large pole into an upright position. The pole has a circular hoop at the top. There is a man at the left foreground sitting on a table and raising a brown jug in his right hand.
