Caithness 6

Richard Deacon 1949

Summary

Collaged cibachrome and drawing. For Richard Deacon, photography like drawing is a way of exploring ideas and expanding the range of imaginative possibilities for sculpture. In 1990 he made a series of drawings which he then paired with photographs to form an artist's book called Atlas. In his exhibition New World Order at Tate Gallery Liverpool in 1999 Deacon showed a new body of work combining ink drawings with cibachrome prints. Titled after the location of the photographs, they have a surreal, dislocated quality and pose questions about how we view and interpret sculpture.
