Noonday

Stott, Edward 1859 - 1918

Summary

Impressionistic, hazy rural scene, depicting four young boys bathing in a pond on a warm summer's day. Two of the boys can be seen getting dressed, another pictured in the pond walks towards the water's edge, and the youngest sits with his back to the viewer. Trees and grasslands can be seen in the surrounding landscape. This rural idyll is expressed through somewhat mottled paint-marks and bright, vibrant tones which seeks to communicate the visual sensation the artist experienced upon viewing this scene.
