Silver teapot 1783 Hester Bateman, London Hester Bateman was one of the 18th century’s most innovative makers of household silverware. She introduced mechanisation, which enabled rapid production of punched and pierced designs in thin sheet silver. In this way she was able to make silverware at an affordable price for people who would otherwise have had to opt for cheaper electro-plated wares. Dr David Lloyd Roberts bequest 1920.1162
