Path by the River Ripley
Arthur Douglas Peppercorn 1847 - 1924
Summary
View along a footpath running alongside the River Ripley, with a wide open meadow to the left, and a dark, indistinct and rather ominous-looking forest visible on opposite bank of the river. There is a single, indistinct figure walking along the path in the middle distance. The landscape is sepia in tone with yellow fields and a dark brown forest to the right. The sky is an off-white colour, indicating a clouded sky. This painting includes a characteristically expansive sky, occupying more than half of the canvas.
