John Linnell 1792 - 1882

Summary

Rural landscape painting with a group of four peasants resting beneath the shade of an old gnarled tree. Three are seated in a group, the fourth standing to the left with a small dog. A fifth man on the right appears to be digging or collecting wood. Sheep are scattered across the background of the land, grazing in the meadow behind the figures, amongst groups of trees.
