Deal Beach

Deal Beach

Edmund Marks

Summary

Calm seascape with a dark cloudy sky. Two fishing boats are moored on a beach, the foremost is surrounded by a group of figures, one holding onto a mooring line which stretches off to the left. The second boat is visible in the background to the left, surrounded by a larger group of figures standing in the shallows of the low tide. The title of the painting identifies the subject as Deal Beach in Kent, however as the beach in Deal is steep and pebbly and the painting depicts a flat sandy beach there is some doubt over this painting's title and subject.
