Summary

Portrait of George Ormerod (1785-1873), the historian of Cheshire. He is seated, and faces left, but he is looking forward. He has a large book in his left hand. His face is detailed, while the rest of the image looks like a sketch and unfinished. Two large volumes rest beside him on a table - the uppermost being 'CHESH. MSS'. His face has a pink bloom, his hair is finely painted and his linen is touched with white gouache, but the rest is in pencil shading.
