A portrait of William Radcliffe (1760-1841), inventor of the cotton dressing machine. Radcliffe is shown as a fairly young and fairly well-rounded young man, with large eyes, smooth skin, and a contemplative expression. His short dark hair curls over the top of his high coat collar at the nape of his neck. From the series of 8 prints 'A Series of Portraits of Inventors of Machines for the Manufacture of Textile Fabrics.' (1862).
