Summary

A-line short swing coat in buttermilk slubbed (wild) silk with a single large distinctive triangular self covered button at neck and bracelet length sleeves; constructed of 10 tapering panels; collarless; lined beige rayon; woven label, cb 'Lachasse, London'. Belonged to Mrs Mary Colver, who worked as a vendeuse at Lachasse from 1953 to 1958, leaving to get married. She bought her clothes at Lachasse during that period, and afterwards, as with this coat of around 1962 and another coat of the same date (2008.124). She later commissioned Ian Thomas for her clothes, and he later became designer to HM The Queen. (see photograph of Mrs Colver in the 1950s)
