Summary

Ball gown in ivory silk, printed with the 'Manhatten' design. Fantasy evening dress with very full skirt with dropped waist line, shallow v-neck, full half length sleeves with van-dyked cuffs and over-sleeves; and matching van-dyked bertha collar. Silk printed in ivory with sky-scraper buildings and stylised geometric patterning. Neck and waist trimmed with diamante representing sky-scrapers, and over-sleeves and bertha trimmed with bugle beads, diamante and sparkling stars. Attached full net and satin petticoats. Label cb neck 'Zandra by Zandra Rhodes, London'. Purchased by the donor when aged 35 from the Zandra Rhodes shop in July 1989 in a sale for £2,500. Sent to a specialist dry cleaners as it had been in the shop window but ruined by them, so remade by Zandra Rhodes on the insurance later in 1989 for the cost of £4,000. The design of the silk print is Manhatten which first appeared in 1984. The dress was never actually worn.
