Wearing large white collar, crossed and pinned with brooch; bodice and shortened skirt joined together fastening centre front; trimmed with dark band at centre front, cuffs and hem . Medal in shape of star pinned to bodice, watch chain visible. Trousers or bloomers trimmed with dark band near hem. She is holding a piece of paper in her right hand. Painted backdrop, table to the left. Inscription on front "Dr Mary Walker.", on back "early medico". See also 2008.40.5.45 for a later portrait of Dr Mary Walker in the same outfit.
