Summary

Studio portrait of the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury (1801-85) in his robes of the Order of the Garter (appointed 1862). He has a side parting in his hair and side whiskers and is wearing military uniform consisting of a tunic with two rows of buttons and a stand-up collar, a cummerbund, trousers with gold stripes down the leg, a floor-length cloak decorated with bows, a sash with braid and a livery collar. He is holding a bicorn hat with a plume of feather on the top in his left hand.
