Summary
Black silk plush over stiff foundation; brim turned back at sides, bound narrow corded ribbon, under brim, black gaberdine; corded silk ribbon band with bow on left at base of crown; leather band inside with silk braid through short run of slots across back; cream silk lining; stamped on crown, with coat of arms "extra quality". Worn by Mr Grundy (donor's husband, an electrical engineer). See also tie (1951.199) and waistcoat (1951.197).
