Landscape with a path between cottages

James Stark 1794 - 1859

Summary

Idyllic rural landscape scene depicting a country lane with a thatched cottage to the right surrounded by overgrown hedges, with tall trees in the background. There is a steep bank lined with trees to the left, with a second cottage visible in the middle distance. Three cows are depicted grazing along the river bank to the left, the lane meanders to the right out of view. The clouds create a dramatic atmosphere and cast the naturalistic scene in shadow.
