Summary

This cartoon shows a queue of small black figures, lining up to walk up a plank into the bowl of a large toilet. The toilet stands at the end of several rows of redbrick terraced housing. In the distance to the left is the outline of Beetham Tower and to the right other buildings from the Manchester skyline. The image references the paintings of L.S. Lowry with their matchstick figures and urban scenes from Manchester and Salford. The cartoon was produced in response to Manchester City Council's announcement of the loss of 2,000 public sector jobs and published as in the Guardian on 13 January 2011. Artist's proof digital print, signed and dated.
