Stiggins Lock

James Hey Davies 1844 - 1930

Summary

A view along a canal towards a lock and lock-keeper's cottage. The cottage has white-washed walls and a blue roof with some ivy growing. A boat is entering the lock, with one figure in the boat and the other operating the lock. A dark and a red horse are on right bank of canal in front of the cottage, harnessed to a large wooden frame. Two men and a dog are with the horses. The brown leaves of the trees suggest an autumn evening.
