Barges on the Thames

Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson 1889 - 1946

Summary

A stylised view of industrial barges and warehouses on the River Thames. A single small tug in the foreground pulls pairs of barges up the river, with two isolated figures standing together on the last barge. Warehouses line the river bank in the background, and are reflected in the water, and two platforms (?) are moored on the river before them. The heightened, distorted perspective gives an air of desolation.
