Summary

Scene depicting a disgruntled, full-bodied elderly woman with a full skirt and tight bodice, leaning on a staff and seated by a small table on which sits paper, ink well and a quill. Behind her to the right, a young woman is dressed in white with a crucifix around her neck. She pours a glass of tonic wine for her companion. There is a backdrop of heavy drapes tied with a cord, visible in the top left corner. A discarded fan lies on the floor in bottom left corner.
