Free, no need to book, all welcome
Manchester Fashion Institute students present designs fresh from the studio in response to Manchester Art Gallery’s newly purchased couture garments. Get up close to Commes De Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto pieces alongside gallery experts and see how students have taken these designs forward in their own work.
This project is part of the BA 2nd Year Womenswear module and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Collecting Cultures strand. Photographs of the student’s work will be recorded against the costume archive records at Manchester Art Gallery to shape and inform understandings of these garments for future generations. By setting these collection items to work so soon after their purchase date the gallery furthers its ambition to maximise their use by upcoming creative talent and to work with city residents to present couture collections in new and unexpected ways.
